Ruth Roman is the youngest child born to Lithuanian and Jewish parents Mary Pauline Gold (Gold) & Abraham Roman in Lynn, Massachusetts. Ruth was a small child when her father, who was employed as the carnival barker, passed away. Her mother was forced to work in jobs including waitressing and cleaning. Ruth was raised in the poor Boston Tenement area in Massachusetts. She was a student in Boston. Following only two school years, Ruth left to pursue an acting profession. The route she took wasn't without its challenges. When she was in New York, her first task was to pose stills for crime magazines, the theatre work that she wanted eluded. The following job she got was a "hat check" girl for a nightclub until she decided to quit and moved back to Boston. In Boston, in which she was employed during the evening as an actor for the New England Repertory Company and for the remainder of her time, was an usherette. She received a master's degree in drama from Bishop-Lee Theatre School.
